Meet Laurie

I can’t tell you how excited I am that you’re considering becoming a Certified ADHD Life Coach(CALC)! Over 20 years ago, I was in your shoes, scared and still eager to get started right away… and I have never looked back.

At that time, my 7-year-old son Blake was diagnosed with ADHD, and despite my education and experience in mental health, I felt utterly helpless.

Incredibly, I discovered ADHD life coaching and saw the tremendous difference it made in Blake’s life and my entire family’s well-being. Over the years, I have watched Blake, with the help of coaching, become a confident, caring, independent man enjoying meaningful relationships and a job he loves at Microsoft.

I KNEW that I wanted to become an ADHD Life Coach and help other families thrive with an ADHD diagnosis. So, I did the unthinkable. I made a mid-life career pivot and became a professional coach. Using my education and expertise in neurobiology,  human behavior, and psychology, I have specialized in coaching persons struggling with ADHD ever since.

Founding the iACTcenter, an International Coaching Federation (ICF) approved training program, was a natural progression when, after decades of being an ADHD Life Coach, I knew the stigma, misunderstanding, and lack of resources for people struggling with ADHD continued to affect people around the globe. I also realized I was just one English-speaking middle-aged woman who could not reach everyone struggling with ADHD worldwide. The iACTcenter was my answer.

There’s so much that makes the iACTcenter different from other coaching programs. Still, the main thing that sets us apart is our core mission: Decrease the stigma, increase the awareness of ADHD around the globe, and help people live their AWESOMENESS through coaching.

Our approach combining the science of ADHD and the art of coaching has trained hundreds of students to become ADHD Life Coaches and understand the ‘whys’ underneath ADHD behavior and symptoms. Our curriculum is science, research, and best practice-based. As a Certified ADHD Life Coach (CALC), you will learn how to share valuable resources, provide nonjudgmental support, and empower your clients so they finally believe in themselves. Welcoming individual differences, cultures, lifestyles, and experiences, our training fits nearly anyone’s ADHD Life Coaching goals, whether for yourself, someone you love, or a community of people struggling with ADHD.

ADHD is never an excuse. However, it can explain why seemingly effortless tasks for other people can be massive barriers to success, fulfillment, and happiness for those with an ADHD brain style.  Through coaching, we provide a safe place for people to talk, become aware, and take action to minimize their ADHD challenges.

So that you know, my staff and I are here to show you how capable you are by teaching you the skills and sharing with you the tools you need to become an excellent Certified ADHD Life Coach(CALC) and build your ADHD life coaching business so you can earn a living while making a difference!

I’d love to welcome you into our community, and I promise to be with you every step of the way.

Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a good fit for the iACTcenter training?

The best fit for our ADHD Life Coach training is an adult learner between the ages of 25-75 with personal or professional experience with ADHD and a sincere desire to make a positive difference in the lives of those struggling with ADHD.

We specialize in training ADHD Life Coaches globally from healthcare or educational backgrounds, and our classes are enriched with students from a much wider variety of backgrounds.

However, what binds our students is that, either personally or professionally, they have experienced ADHD, want to expand their knowledge about the science of ADHD, and are open to learning an entirely new way of helping people with ADHD live their brilliance. Finally, they feel “called” to do this work.

The training is taught in English. However, many of our students speak English as a second language and can utilize a translation tool for the class handouts.

At a minimum, students need to have completed at least a high school level of education, are passionate about learning, constantly curious, out-of-the-box thinkers committed to making a difference in the lives of people with ADHD, and are willing to take responsibility for their learning.

What is the iACTcenter's mission statement?

The International ADHD Coach Training Center’s (iACTcenter’s) Mission is Three-Fold.

First, to prepare emerging coaches with the skills, competencies, ethics, and guidelines of the International Coaching Federation to increase awareness of ADHD and ADHD Life Coaching globally. Secondly, to increase our student’s self-awareness of clients living with ADHD so they can support them with moving forward toward their goals and living their best lives using the ICF’s Coaching model. And finally, using an ICF coaching model, to provide our students with the information, tools, resources, and structure they want to create a sustainable coaching business and continue pursuing their passion for being Certified ADHD Life Coaches (CALC) and becoming ICF credentialed coaches for years to come.

What is the withdrawal/refund policy?

Students can withdraw from the iACTcenter training program at any time.

The iACTcenter refund policy states that if a student withdraws before the first class, a full refund will be granted (minus a $200 administrative fee).

If someone withdraws before the second week of classes begins, the students will get a 75% refund (minus a $200 administrative fee).

After the beginning of the second week of classes, no refund will be given.

What happens when I complete the training?

As an International Coaching Federation (ICF) approved training program, upon completing the iACTcenter requirements, graduates will have earned a Certified ADHD Life Coach (CALC) designation and be well on their way to meeting the credentialing requirements for the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

All your training hours, including your mentoring at the iACTcenter, never expire and allow you flexibility in applying for an ICF credential.

Your advanced understanding of ADHD and the skills of an ICF-trained ADHD Life Coach will have you prepared to coach a broad range of individuals, including students, parents, and families across the lifespan, around personal, professional, or academic challenges.

Perhaps most valuable to many iACTcenter graduates is the continued participation with a strong, committed, and growing interactive community here at the iACTcenter.

Even after completing their training, our graduate members benefit from ongoing access to our twice-a-month Coaching Labs, continued participation in our coaching referral network, the opportunity to promote their services on our main website, 20% off any classes, courses or workshops offered following their graduation and of course a huge hug whenever possible at International ADHD Conferences and events.

Who can I coach when I graduate?

As an International Coaching Federation (ICF) approved training program, the iACTcenter trains its coaches using the framework, skills, competencies, ethics, standards, guidelines, and regulations of the ICF.  Doing so prepares our students to coach a wide variety of clients and their unique needs using our holistic ADHD Life Coaching model.

The iACTcenter coined the niche, ADHD Life Coach because we know people are more than just their ADHD. Worldwide, clients seek out our graduates because of their expertise in ADHD and their expertise in coaching them around their everyday challenges.

When you graduate, you will be able to coach persons with and without ADHD of any age and niche, including students, adolescents, college students, adults, parents, families, and even our super seniors with ADHD.

What is the weekly time commitment?

Previous students tell us that in addition to the twice-a-week 90-minute classes and twice-a-month 90-minute Coaching Labs, they spend another 2-4 hours a week preparing for classes and doing their own reading on ADHD.

Additionally, the iACTcenter provides extra monthly support around your coaching and business-building questions. Each of these meets 60 minutes once a month.

Your mentoring, practice coaching, and business development replace the twice-a-week classes with the 90-minute monthly Graduate Accountability meetings to support you during this time.

Finally, if you are enrolled in one of our Certified ADHD Life Coach training, at least quarterly, we host live workshops. These workshops allow you to spend more time learning about key ADHD or entrepreneurial topics.

Questions? Email Heidi@iACTcenter.com

Once I register, how do I access the training?

Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email and begin receiving emails from the iACTcenter, preparing you for the start of your training.

During your training, your classes, labs, workshops, etc., are live using the video conferencing platform Zoom. iACTcenter students enjoy the live interaction and show up, cameras on, and eager to participate!

What if I am outside of the United States?

Awesome! We take our mission to make ADHD Life Coaching available to persons around the globe very seriously. You are welcome, and we can’t wait to meet you. Your presence adds a wonderful richness and diversity to everyone’s experience.

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) governs and sets the guidelines worldwide, so you can take what you learn in our training back to your communities, countries, and continents.

To try and accommodate our international student body, we rotate the times classes meet each semester. It may not be perfect, but we want to make it work.

Please visit our online iACTcenter calendar or email us at Heidi@iACTcenter.com, if you have any questions about dates and times.

When can I start earning money as a coach?

There is not one exact time when emerging coaches begin charging for their services.  It is more about personal readiness.

However, past students tell us that they feel more prepared and confident to begin charging for their coaching when they have completed the Foundations, Growth, and at least part of the Core Course. That, and attending the Coaching Labs regularly.

This timing provides you with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of coaching so you know how to provide value in the coaching and therefore feel more confident charging for your services.

Is the iACTcenter accredited by the International Coach Federation(ICF)?

Yes! The iACTcenter has met the rigorous requirements set forth by the ICF and is an elite Level 1 accredited ICF coach training program.

As a graduate of the iACTcenter, do I need additional credentials to practice as a Certified ADHD Life Coach?

No. The iACTcenter has met the International Coaching Federation’s (ICF) rigorous requirements and is an approved ICF coach training program. After graduation, you can practice as a Certified ADHD Life Coach(CALC) without additional ADHD training credentials.

Suppose you would like to become credentialed with the International Coach Federation. In that case, your training, practice, and mentoring hours gained through the iACTcenter can be applied directly toward an ICF credential, where one of their official independent assessors awards you an ICF credential.

The ICF does not recognize any other credentials or training to practice fully as an iACTcenter Certified ADHD Life Coach (CALC).

Another ADHD Coach training program says that I need their specific credential to be an ADHD Life Coach. Is that true?

No. The International Coaching Federation(ICF) is the only credentialing authority on coaching. There is no additional specialty credential needed.

As an approved ICF training program, you can use your training, practice, and mentoring hours gained through the iACTcenter towards your ICF credential. Our training has been designed to meet those high standards.

What is the iACTcenter’s DEIJ Statement, Equal Opportunity, and Non-Discrimination Policies?

We are happy you asked, please read them HERE.

Will I have to find all my own clients to gain coach experience to graduate?

No, we’ve got you covered!

Developing confidence in enrolling new coaching clients is an essential skill for an ADHD Life Coach. Learning how to do this means you can keep your coaching business humming along for years to come.  And we know that enrolling your first clients can be scary!

So, at the iACTcenter we encourage you to explore other ways you can gain coach experience while preparing to graduate, including Cohort Coaching Circles with your peers and our unbelievable “Coach Referral Network”, where clients apply for the chance to work with one of our students or graduates, a win-win-win!  Both help you practice,  gain confidence and count toward your coach practice hours required for graduation.

We know that getting those first few clients is the hardest, so here at the iACTcenter, we have created a step-by-step process to help you practice and gain confidence while working toward enrolling your own clients.

Can I miss a class if I am away or on vacation?

Absolutely! Everything is recorded so you can access it at your next earliest convenience.

Can I get partial credit for coach training hours I received before joining the iACTcenter?

The iACTcenter does not give partial credit for incomplete courses before or during training. Completion of the entire program is needed to receive credit. For questions about this policy, please get in touch with Heidi Fishbein, Assistant Director of Training, at Heidi@iACTcenter.com.

How many students are in each class?

At the iACTcenter, we keep the class size of  15 amazing, perfectly imperfect students who want to make a difference in helping people with ADHD.

How long does it take to complete the iACTcenter training?

To learn to be a well-trained ADHD Life Coach takes time, practice, and feedback.

The training at the iACTcenter is purposely designed to provide you with a comprehensive, quality, and expertly designed ADHD Life Coach training program that takes approximately one year to complete.  Any less than that does not allow you the time to become a confident, compassionate, and skilled ADHD Life Coach.

Are there any hidden fees or expenses?

Transparency, authenticity, and integrity are essential values of the iACTcenter.

For this reason, we have included all you need to graduate in your tuition, so there are no extra surprise hidden expenses.

You will need a computer, tablet, or smartphone to access the calls, WIFI internet, and a couple of 3″ binders if you want to print out the class handouts and organize them in that fashion. You are also responsible for any long-distance, phone, or internet charges you might incur based on how and from where you are joining us.

Depending on your training path, 3-10 hours of mentoring is also included in your tuition. This is a unique benefit not offered in-house by many programs.

Many of the references we use are available for free via the Internet. We also have a Global Library that contains additional resources on becoming a coach. Occasionally, there may be a book we highly recommend. However, choosing to purchase it is your choice.

What is the difference between the iACTcenter Associate Coach (IAC) & the Certified ADHD Life Coach (CALC)?

There are some similarities and significant differences between the iAC and CALC training programs.

Both programs take one year to complete. Participants from both programs benefit from the same three-course comprehensive ADHD Life Coaching curriculum and participate in the year-round Coaching Labs. Each includes mentor coaching.

The iACTcenter Associate Coach (iAC) program is designed for students who want to apply their training to current roles, such as parenting, education, or health care. The iAC student is not interested in becoming a professional credentialed coach with the International Coaching Federation (ICF) or building a sustainable and profitable coaching business.

The iACTcenter Certified ADHD Life Coach (CALC) program is designed for persons wanting to become Certified ADHD Life Coaches (CALC), benefit from the additional career and business-building curriculum to create the foundation of a sustainable and profitable coaching business, and want to pursue their ICF credential after graduation.

To further compare the benefits and value of these different programs, scroll to the table above.
