Meet Laurie

Welcome! I’m thrilled you’re considering training at the International ADHD Coach Training Center (iACTcenter)!

Over 20 years ago, I was like you, feeling anxious and even scared to start this journey. Back then, my 7-year-old son Blake was diagnosed with ADHD, and despite my background in mental health, I felt helpless.

Remarkably, I discovered ADHD life coaching and witnessed the profound difference it brought to my son Blake and our entire family. Through coaching, Blake blossomed into a self-assured, independent adult, earning a degree in computer science, fostering meaningful long-term relationships, and realizing his dream of working at Microsoft. His journey is a testament to the power of ADHD life coaching and the potential it holds for your own journey.

I knew then that I wanted to become an ADHD Life Coach and help other families thrive. So, I made a bold mid-life career change and became a professional coach, drawing on my knowledge of neurobiology, human behavior, and psychology to specialize in ADHD coaching.

In 2015, the iACTcenter, an International Coaching Federation (ICF) accredited coach training and education program, was born out of my mission to reduce the stigma, increase the awareness of ADHD, and help people embrace their AWESOMENESS through coaching worldwide.

What truly distinguishes the iACTcenter is our unwavering commitment to our beliefs, values, and core mission. Our mission, as relevant today as it was 20+ years ago, is to combat the stigma of ADHD, raise global awareness, and empower individuals to embrace their unique strengths through coaching. By joining us, you become an integral part of this impactful movement.

Our approach combines the science of ADHD with the art of coaching to equip our students with the skills needed to make a positive impact in the lives of those with ADHD. We believe in creating a safe space for individuals to overcome ADHD challenges and achieve personal growth, all while fostering genuine connections and serving our communities.

Our curriculum is rooted in science, research, and best practices, collaboratively created on the wealth of experience and expertise of our faculty, who serve a diverse population of persons with ADHD.

ADHD isn’t an excuse, but it does provide insight into why seemingly simple tasks can be daunting for those with an ADHD brain style. Through coaching, we create a safe space for people to explore, become self-aware, widen their solutions, and take action to overcome their ADHD challenges.

My team is here to guide you every step of the way, teaching you the skills and sharing the tools you need to excel as a Certified ADHD Life Coach (CALC) and build your coaching business. We’d be delighted to welcome you into our community and are committed to supporting you throughout this transformative journey.

Answers to Your Frequently Asked Questions

Who is a good fit for the iACTcenter training?

The best fit for our ADHD Life Coach training is an adult learner between the ages of 25-75 with personal or professional experience with ADHD and a sincere desire to learn a new profession and do things differently so they can make a positive impact in the lives of those struggling with ADHD.

Our classroom reaches globally and attracts therapeutic, healthcare, or educational professionals ready to shift careers, as well as individuals with other professional or personal backgrounds interested in expanding their knowledge about ADHD to use in their current role to help people with ADHD live to their fullest potential.

Our students are bound together by a common thread of ADHD, whether it’s their personal journey or their connection with a loved one. They share a deep curiosity about the science of ADHD, a passion for the art of professional coaching, and a profound sense of purpose in this work.

The training is conducted in English, making the iACTcenter the preferred choice for students worldwide who are proficient in English as a second language. We provide translation tools to facilitate their learning about ADHD.

To be eligible for the program, students must have completed at least a high school level of education, be passionate about learning, have a curious mind, think creatively, enjoy being in a community of like-minded persons, want to support others to achieve their goals and are excited to learn a new way of making a difference.

What is the iACTcenter's mission statement?

The mission of the International ADHD Coach Training Center (iACTcenter) has three objectives. Firstly, it aims to equip emerging coaches with the required skills, competencies, ethics, and guidelines of the International Coaching Federation to increase awareness of ADHD and ADHD Life Coaching globally. Secondly, it seeks to enhance the self-awareness of students regarding clients living with ADHD so that they can help them move forward toward their goals and enable them to live their best lives using the ICF’s Coaching model. Finally, using an ICF coaching model, the center provides students with the information, tools, resources, and structure needed to create a sustainable coaching business. This helps students pursue their passion and become Certified ADHD Life Coaches (CALC) and ICF credentialed coaches for years.

What is the withdrawal/refund policy?

Students can withdraw from the iACTcenter training program at any time.

The iACTcenter refund policy states that if a student withdraws before the first class, a full refund will be granted (minus a $200 administrative fee).

If someone withdraws before the second week of classes begins, the students will get a 75% refund (minus a $200 administrative fee).

After the beginning of the second week of classes, no refund will be given.

What happens when I complete the training?

Upon graduation, you will have earned your iACTcenter Certified ADHD Life Coach designation,  empowering you to apply for your International Coaching Federation (ICF) credential. With a deep understanding of ADHD and advanced coaching skills, you can coach individuals from various backgrounds, including students, parents, and families, regarding personal, professional, or academic challenges.

For many iACTcenter graduates, one of the most valuable aspects of the program is the benefit from the ongoing support, learning, and community as alumni with participation in our coaching referral network, the opportunity to promote your services and products on the iACTcenter website, and of course, a huge hug whenever possible at International ADHD Conferences and events.

Who can I coach when I graduate?

As an International Coaching Federation (ICF) approved training program, the iACTcenter trains its coaches using the framework, skills, competencies, ethics, standards, guidelines, and regulations of the ICF.  Doing so prepares our students to coach a wide variety of clients and their unique needs using our holistic ADHD Life Coaching model.

The iACTcenter coined the niche, ADHD Life Coach because we know people are more than just their ADHD. Worldwide, clients seek out our graduates because of their expertise in ADHD and their expertise in coaching them around their everyday challenges.

When you graduate, you will be able to coach persons with and without ADHD of any age and niche, including students, adolescents, college students, adults, parents, families, and even our super seniors with ADHD.

What is the time commitment to complete the training?

All of the training programs offered at the iACTcenter are designed to be completed within one year. The amount of time students devote to their studies each week or month may vary depending on several factors. These factors include the student’s learning style, prior knowledge of the topic, time available for studying, and the number of Continuing Coach Education (CCE) hours included in the program. For instance, the Certified ADHD Life Coach (CALC) training program consists of 124 CCEs. If you divide this number by 12 months (10.5) or 52 weeks (2.5 hrs), you can get a rough estimate of a student’s time actively engaged in classes, meetings, or sessions.

Rest assured, you won’t be navigating this learning journey alone. Many of our previous students have found it beneficial to spend an additional 1-2 hours per week reading the handouts and exploring extra resources on ADHD, coaching, or entrepreneurship. These resources are readily available to you, providing additional support and enhancing your learning experience.

For current iACTcenter class schedules, we recommend checking out our website’s calendar at www.iactcenter.com/calendar/. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at Heidi@iACTcenter.com.

Once I register, how do I access the training?

Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email and begin receiving emails from the iACTcenter, preparing you for the start of your training.

During your training, your classes, labs, workshops, etc., are live using the video conferencing platform Zoom. iACTcenter students enjoy the live interaction and show up, cameras on, and eager to participate!

What if I am outside of the United States?

Awesome! We take our mission to make ADHD Life Coaching available to persons around the globe very seriously. You are welcome, and we can’t wait to meet you. Your presence adds a wonderful richness and diversity to everyone’s experience.

The International Coaching Federation (ICF) governs and sets the guidelines worldwide, so you can take what you learn in our training back to your communities, countries, and continents.

To try and accommodate our international student body, we rotate the times classes meet each semester. It may not be perfect, but we want to make it work.

Please visit our online iACTcenter calendar or email us at Heidi@iACTcenter.com, if you have any questions about dates and times.

When can I start earning money as a coach?

There is not one exact time when emerging coaches begin charging for their services.  It is more about personal readiness.

However, past students tell us that they feel more prepared and confident to begin charging for their coaching when they have completed the Foundations, Growth, and at least part of the Core Course. That, and attending the Coaching Labs regularly.

This timing not only equips you with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of coaching but also instills in you the confidence to deliver value in your coaching. This, in turn, makes you feel more competent and capable of charging for your services.

Is the iACTcenter an accredited International Coach Federation(ICF) coach training program?

Yes! The iACTcenter has met the rigorous requirements set forth by the ICF and is an elite Level 1 accredited ICF coach training program. This means that when you graduate from the iACTcenter having demonstrated coaching at an ICF level and completed the 10 hours of mentoring included in your tuition and the required coaching education, you will be eligible to apply for your ICF coach credential.

Do I need any additional credentials to practice as an ADHD Life Coach after graduating from the iACTcenter?

No. Graduating from the iACTcenter means you have met the International Coaching Federation’s (ICF) rigorous requirements of an accredited level-1 ICF coach training program to practice as a Certified ADHD Life Coach(CALC). No other training or ADHD organization credentials are needed. The ICF is the only authority on coach credentialing and does not recognize nor require any other credentials or training to practice as an ADHD Life Coach.

Another ADHD Coach training program says that I need their specific credential to be an ADHD Life Coach. Is that true?

No. The International Coaching Federation(ICF) is the only credentialing authority on coaching. No additional specialty credential is needed, and the ICF does not recognize it as necessary to practice as an ADHD coach.

As an approved ICF training program, you can use the training, practice, and mentoring hours you gain through the iACTcenter to develop your ICF credential. Our training has been designed to meet those high standards.

Will I have to find all my own clients to gain coach experience to graduate?

We understand that gaining confidence to enroll new coaching clients is a crucial skill for an ADHD Life Coach. This skill enables you to keep your coaching business thriving for years to come. However, we also acknowledge that enrolling your first clients can be daunting. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

At the iACTcenter, we encourage you to explore other ways to gain coach experience while preparing to graduate. We offer Cohort Coaching Circles with your peers to practice your coaching and earn coach practice hours. For our Advance-Certified ADHD Life Coach Students, we provide the incredible “Coach Referral Network.” This network not only allows you to gain valuable experience but also opens doors to potential clients who are eager to work with our students or graduates. It’s a win-win-win situation that can significantly boost your confidence and practice hours.

Can I miss a class if I am away or on vacation?

Absolutely! Everything is recorded so you can access it at your next earliest convenience.

Can I get partial credit for coach training hours I received before joining the iACTcenter?

The iACTcenter does not give partial credit for incomplete courses before or during training. Completion of the entire program is needed to receive credit. For questions about this policy, please get in touch with Heidi Fishbein, Assistant Director of Training, at Heidi@iACTcenter.com.

How many students are in each class?

At the iACTcenter, we keep our class sizes to include 15 amazing, perfectly imperfect students who want to make a difference in helping people with ADHD. We know that small class sizes create a more engaging, interactive, connected, and effective learning environment for our students and allow our faculty to provide the individualized support you deserve.

How long does it take to complete the iACTcenter training?

To learn to be a well-trained ADHD Life Coach takes time, practice, and feedback.

The training at the iACTcenter is purposely designed to provide you with a comprehensive, quality, and expertly designed ADHD Life Coach training program that takes approximately one year to complete.  Any less than that does not allow you the time to become a confident, compassionate, and skilled ADHD Life Coach.

What is the difference between the iACTcenter Associate Coach (IAC) & the Certified ADHD Life Coach (CALC)?

There are some similarities and significant differences between the iAC and CALC training programs.

Both programs take one year to complete. Participants from both programs benefit from the same three-course comprehensive ADHD Life Coaching curriculum and participate in the year-round Coaching Labs. Each includes mentor coaching.

The iACTcenter Associate Coach (iAC) program is designed for students who want to apply their training to current roles, such as parenting, education, or health care. The iAC student is not interested in becoming a professional credentialed coach with the International Coaching Federation (ICF) or building a sustainable and profitable coaching business.

The iACTcenter Certified ADHD Life Coach (CALC) program is designed for persons wanting to become Certified ADHD Life Coaches (CALC), benefit from the additional career and business-building curriculum to create the foundation of a sustainable and profitable coaching business, and want to pursue their ICF credential after graduation.

To further compare the benefits and value of these different programs, scroll to the table above.
